Whenever I ride a bike for the first time I always learn the friction zone before taking off. The friction zone is the point when the clutch begins to engage and ending when fully engaged. Most bikes will have a decent window to work with. The Tenere was almost nonexistent, it was either on or off. Only being able to slip the clutch a small amount will definitely make modulating power smoothly a challenge.
Camel ADV makes a part called 1 Finger Clutch Kit. This longer clutch actuation arm gives you 3 mounting positions for the cable. Simply put the longer arm opens the clutch more giving it more of that window we talked about earlier. Having a longer arm will also increase its leverage making the clutch pull easier. I have mine set on the middle hole and with the ASV short lever its an easy 1 finger pull. This was the first part I added to my Tenere and it was an instant improvement even without the ASV lever. The part is very well made and installs easily.

I am a firm believer that an exhaust on your motorcycle does two things.
1 - Loud pipes save lives. Being heard by traffic brings awareness to you. At this point society is so focused on their phones and social media while driving we need all the help we can get.
2 - Makes it easier to have more control over the bike. Being able to tell exactly what RPM you’re at comes with practice. Once you’re in tune with it you’ll find its easier to get over obstacles or just make u turns.
Yes in some cases you can shave some weight or pick up a horsepower or two. But I don’t get caught up in stuff like that if I’m not chasing performance. For me the Tenere has plenty of power but reducing weight is always a bonus. I will say the exhaust feels lighter but I did not weigh them nor does Yoshimura state a weight savings on their website.
I went with the Yoshimura RS-12 ADV Slip on. It looks beautiful and sounds absolutely amazing. The sound this CP2 engine makes is incredible.

Off road protection for the bike is an important topic. All fun and games ripping around looking cool. Then find yourself with a cracked case or something else that could have been prevented with a simple part.
I believe the basics in bike protection are skid plate, hand guards, and some type of engine and/or radiator braces. Basically protecting the bikes vital organs. Lets go over what I have done to mine.
Camel ADV Skid Plate or as they call it Gut Guard ( see vital organs reference ) in the Silver finish. This thing is beefy, simple, and very well thought out. I really like the serviceable slide panel and suspension linkage guard made of UHMV (Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene).

Tusk D Flex Pro Handguards protect: Your hands from flying objects, weather, and levers from contacting the ground when you go down. Such good memories as a kid - I rode woods a lot in Florida. Lucky me would split two trees and a vine would grab my front brake lever and down in the sugar sand I went! A tip over could result in a lever breaking. Most levers have break away cuts in them towards the end of the lever. This doesn’t always work and results in a lever that’s broken off much closer to the pivot point. Imagine snapping one of your levers off and then having to ride off the trail and then back home. No thanks I will pass. While you’re at it toss some ASV Shorty Levers on there. Makes off road riding so much easier, especially being able to use one finger on the clutch and not bash your other fingers. Plus they look amazing, have tons of adjustability, and if you don’t want to use hand guards they have a pivot feature preventing them from breaking in a tip over.

Touratech Crash Bars in Electo Polished Stainless protect the engine cases in the event of a tip over. The water pump is exposed on the right side so toss on a Touratech Water Pump Guard as extra Insurance. The crash bars angle also reduces the chance of radiator impact when tipped over. This is one of the few bars I found that actually covers parts of the engine case too. May help may not, but I do know Touratech makes high quality parts and is well thought out.

While my sample size is small as I do not have a garage full of bikes to ride, but I have owned quite the variety of bikes over the past 20 years. I truly feel like the Yamaha Tenere 700 is the bike that can do it all. I can ride all day and be comfortable. It has excellent power and fuel economy. Not only is there plenty of power, it’s insanely linear. No dips or spikes in power, just smooth delivery. The sound it makes, especially in the upper RPM range, is incredible and very addicting. The CP2 engine is know for its reliability and long service intervals. Yamaha has an outstanding reputation for quality motorcycles and the Tenere 700 is no exception. All in all this is a win. Don't get caught up in the forums and keyboard warriors. Just get out, ride, and enjoy it.
